Kids Fishing Derby 2009

The Schroon Lake Kids’ fishing derby was held under sunny skies on Saturday, July 25th in the village of Schroon Lake. Eighty competitive anglers, age twelve and under, terrorized the fish around the town dock for three hours, seeking the crown of the champion. Prizes were awarded in numerous categories including for the three largest perch, black bass, rock bass, sunfish, and crappie. Casting competitions were held to judge accuracy and distance.
The top prize was awarded to Lilly Otto of Wilton, NY, who landed a 1 pound 14 ounce bass in the first hour of the contest. The largest crappie was caught by Andrew Sponable of North Creek. The largest bluegill was caught by Mike Malloy of Loudonville and largest perch by Misha Fry of Oak Park, IL. The prize for the largest rock bass went to Bryan Head of Burlington Flats, NY. The casting contests were won by Kyle Moses of Schroon Lake and Val DeCesare of South Glens Falls.
